It's Winter- an Upsidedown Cat Christmas

Well it has surprised us all, including me, but I guess we're almost done with my Christmas album. I wrote the songs 2 years ago, and some of them last year. I thought we wouldn't have enough time to work on it this year, so I almost gave up on it. In the last week, we have worked hard, late into the evenings sometimes, and I find that the songs are turning out way better than I hoped! I think a lot of that is due to working with my good musical friends, mike and jonathan. They helped me arrange and record Soon Fall Will Be Here and now are helping with this album. I am so grateful!

The songs are different from SFWBH (ha). In fact i think the only casio on it, is a casio drum sample we made. The songs are played on the Mason & Hamlin piano mike bought 2 years ago. Also some Rhodes, Moog Opus and some more acapella based tracks.

They are also a different subject matter, more about this later, but it's Christmas songs, but I wrote them (not the traditional Christmas songs you may have grown up with). There's also a thanksgiving song, and some that are just about wintertime. I also found it fitting to include 3 songs that i have shared with my church over the last 4 or so years: Read my Heart, Sing into the Darkness, and Work of your Hands, which has guest appearences by Team Fadel! (It's sooooo gooood!)

and now down to business:
we're going to try to finish it by monday??
and get it online for free download (probably on NoiseTrade).
There will also be limited real CD copies. I made perhaps 80 cat prints that will be made into paper covers. They are screenprinted on red paper, but now that I don't have access to a printing studio, i guess my hand painted stencils seem less than perfect, but I'm still pleased with them over all!
Those who get the download will have access to an image of the cover, and the track info.

so... let me know if you want a real copy, or look out for the download.
I think it's 8 of my songs, and I'm not sure yet if Mike will put a Hallowed Sails song on it. We'll see!!!! hoooooray!

thoughts

i just want to say i feel like i'm learning about "new" music in a really weird order. like i just really heard buddy holly for the first time and understood who he was. like i know that one song, but didn't know it was him. and i know the weezer song, and i knew what he looked like.

and yeah, robert johnson, and do-wop. i never knew that "why do fools fall in love" was sung by a 13 year old. and i grew up listening to some oldies on the radio, but i only heard the few songs that were actually on the radio. i guess it's just interesting to find bands from forever ago that i never knew about but totally love. like who would i be if i'd heard stuff years ago. hmmmm.. but it is cool to be learning about music history, and be learning to write songs at the same time.

and i just checked out the yacht "i believe in you. your magic is real" cd from the bibliotheque and remembered how much i like "so post all 'em" and now there's another cd on my big list (which isn't on paper, just in my head) of cds i want to buy. and yeah, and i'm in the mixchange, which is rad, but then it just means i'm finding out about more bands, and what about the bands that i know about but have only ever heard like two cds of their's like, the pixies, flaming lips. the only bands i own basically everything of is built to spill, modest mouse (except for the two newest) and then dear nora. oh and i guess thanksgiving, but he keeps recording new stuff, so it's hard to catch up. and presently i have no money for cds, so it's good that the mixchange exists, but i still wish i could have more music...

Rearrangia

so i have this problem where i have stacks of empty CD cases sitting on my shelves... and then CDs in CD booklet things. and then also this problem where when i make mixes, i have NO idea what track #10 is, and can't find the case. and then when i lend CDs it is also kind of nice to have the case with it. and it's not like i have that many CDs compaired to other people, and also a lot of them are ones i don't really listen to anymore (let me know if you need any five iron frenzy or johnny q. public CDs), but they really could be more organized, and i mean, i worked in a library, and it does bug me that they aren't all in order, whatever that order may be.

SO, yeah... yesterday i was like hmm.. maybe i should fix that! and so i started working on it this morning, matching up CDs with cases with the liner notes. and it's exciting. and that means, my burned CDs can have more room in the CD booklet thing, and maybe i can even get rid of the old one that's kind of ripping. and i'm hoping that my CDs will be less scratched, cuz some of my old ones are in bad shape, and that is sad. i have some old CD cases from my brother-in-law (in french it's "beau frere"...which is "handsome brother"...haha) so i can change broken cases with those ones.

(i got the cases from him cuz i thought eventually i'd make Upsidedown Cat CDs, but then i realized i'd rather go the paper case way.. from that one cool place in portland that does all the cool CD covers for people, like marriage records, and the builders and the butchers, and yeah. stumptown printers? except i'll just get blank ones, and will print on them...right alissa?)

also, i moved my tape cassette holder thing to the shelf with my CDs which is better than on my dresser, because my dresser is always covered with stuff, and it's hard to get tapes back in, so then i never put them away, and everything ends up on the floor eventually and i risk breaking things, and now that i've been buying music from friends, and local bands, i do want to not ruin stuff... yeah.

and, i'm not sure i'll keep it this way, but i had this other area for newer CDs, like my most favorites that i wanted to keep with the cases, and now that box is for mix CDs, and i'm excited, cuz i got a bunch at once and then they were scattered in my room and i couldn't remember how many i still had to listen to (yeah, i need to catch up on listening...and by the way, i'm so excited for the cover i'm making!)

so... and then i don't know how i have so much stuff, but sometime soon i need to sort through my clothes, and either make stuff with them, or fix the ones that i'm not wearing cuz they need fixing, or actually take them to the thrift store.

two more things, i went to the eye doctor, cuz i haven't been since dec 03, and i'm getting new glasses, sort of similar to the ones i have, so still black plastic, and kind of the same shape. they do have tiger stripes on the inside, but you don't really notice. i wanted ones that have clip on sunglasses that are made for them, and are the same shape, but they didn't have that many with plastic glasses, and i love plastic glasses. and, she took pictures of inside my eyes, so i saw all the viens, and i have stripes in my eyes, and i think she called them "tabby cat stripes" (i don't think it was tiger..) um, and that's awesome, cuz you know me and my cats. she said they're common for southern europeans, (i'm half german, and half random european- i think english and scottish and...) and from other random places. woo!

and, i should blog more about france, cuz i have more pictures to put up.. so i'll try to do that soon.
