poursuite dans la ville de livres
sooo... here's a story.
once upon a time i bought a book from powells..a french comic. (see photo above) i loved it because of the crazy 70s hair, and the story, about a boy who isn't interested in high school and wants to be a mechanic. so he somehow gets in with a tough crowd, and ends up (if i remember correctly) using a car from the garage as a getaway car for a bank robbery... so he's racing from cops at one point, and then maybe the car gets smashed or something, i forget. anyways, i bought it also for the ending, where he ducks into a building to escape from the cops, and is in a church meeting, and basically the end of the book is like a tract, and he realises he needs to believe in God.
so... it's a pretty funny book...ha.
anyways, a while back a girl in one of my art classes were lending french comics to each other. and the term ended, and we planned to hang out in summer, but somehow it never happened. so later i messaged her about getting 2 of them back, but no reply, which made me wonder, because i'd even offered to pay shipping because she'd moved. so then a few months ago i wrote to her again... and no reply.
and i didn't know what the book was called. but i'd also lent a cool flash gordon comic to her.. but realized i'd never get them back.
so... today i was showing a new friend downtown, and we were at powells, and went to look at french comics. so i was telling her this story...and perfect timing, i found the book!!! and so i was amazed, and we looked at it, and it totally had my name in it. ha!! so...i bought it. 6.59 the first time, and 4.59 today. so... the moral is i guess, even if you sell your friend's book to powells, at least say, "oh sorry, i sold your book for some reason" (though i'm not really mad at her... just a little disappointed)
and i didn't see the flash gordon book. Guy L'Eclair. but i guess it's okay. it's been over a year...
anyways...then my dad told me a similar story where he lent a book to a friend who lent it to his brother and then my dad found it later at a rummage sale...
so...
other highlights:
getting the new builders and butchers cd
and nedelle's cd..with a gift card- thanks chris!
hanging out with my penpal
spending time in comic stores
getting a weird book by beverly cleary called "fifteen".
going with breena to get her library card
and i'm excited for tomorrow...should be a good day!!!
more info about jefko, the artist.

comics all around!
so firstly, tomorrow is 3 on the 3rd, secondly i'm featured in my new friend's daily comic, and i love my cat hat!! ha! easel aint easy comics
andd... the stumptown comic fest is sooon... like april 18th, which i'm scheduled to have people sing group vocals on my album... hmm. so maybe i could go on the sunday, but i don't really have money and it's sad to go and not be able to buy anything..
----
today i tried doing monotype printing, and... the teacher was away and it's only our second class, so i really felt so clumsy at it, and it took me forever to get started and stuff. but maybe it'll be awesome, i mean i know it will, i just have to learn it better and i'm soo bad at having clean hands, like i always get ink everywhere though i try not to. and i'm used to black ink, but this is colored, so now i have weird colored ink stains on my hands. haha.
anyway, this term i'm happy to not have class on fridays. i work, but it means i don't have homework thursdays and can be more relaxed, so i think i'll clean my room, practice for a probable show i have in may (or other future shows, cuz i should practice anyways, right?) and work on my book for book arts. it's like 4 days into the term and i feel so so busy and i have a busy weekend planned. sigh. but i guess i'm happy.. mainly tired right now.

sorta fuzzy on the third left...
see that funny diagonal shape in the middle of everything i scan? it's a scratch on my scanner... so annoying!
BONUS! (sorry it's scanned and looks super weird, and my hands are all messed up from doing lots of art lately, but check out that finger nail.. ow. and actually yesterday at work a book and metal book end fell off the shelf and hit me in the face and managed to tear the thumb nail of my other hand. is the library out to get me?!!)

comics
it has come to my attention that tomorrow is hourly comics day. i guess i think i'll try it and at least start it. i mean, i've done a lot for the 3 on the 3rds, so i can probably handle it, or at least sketch it all tomorrow.
basically you make a comic panel for every hour you're awake on feb. 1.
lindsey explains it well.
****EDIT****
i'm sick and have a bunch of homework, and don't need other distractions today... so i think i'll do my own 24 hour comic another day... maybe on the 3rd, we'll see!!
************
anyway... i'll talk to you later!

november
welll, here it is...

i'm taking a book binding class. and i've worked sooo much on my book the last few days, and was up til 2 last night binding it, only to find this morning that my teacher still isn't back from florida...sooo... sigh. i have a few more things i'll add, but i guess it's nice to be almost done. (i'll scan it or something sometime...)
hey we have a new president, too! and not growing up with a TV and all, i think this is the first time i've really watched footage on the night of an election, thanks to BBC's website. it was pretty interesting, and all i could think of during the 4th was "the whole world is watching." which is true.. cuz our president choice definitely affects the whole world. so i'm nervous and excited and i guess we'll have to see what happens.
