pink and red

so, this is what it looks like so far. and i've already made some mistakes, because for somethings i have to dig out my clothes to realize the details about them. like i forgot the patterning on the cuffs of the sleeves of the norwegian sweater in the lower right corner. and the spot that is missing is a skirt i need to look at to get the pattern right.

and there will be words in the pink boxes, and yeah stuff is organized by color. and i think i have at least 20 pages which means i have a ways to go!

i guess i feel like i have three classes that are equally demanding of my time, and it's hard, like i always feel like i'm supposed to be working on something else more. oh well. and i haven't had to go to every class, but that just means i feel a lot less responsible with my time, in some ways. and i also feel like i'm slacking on emails and there's just not enough time in the day?

so i'll get back to work...

joe vs. the bamboo forest

so yeah, description drawings...

joe described a photo to me, then i had to figure out how to draw it without seeing it.

(i might have a better picture sometime, my friend took one with her camera, cuz this one never takes good pictures..)

so at the critique we realized we'd miss communicated about what was on the sides, at first i thought it was fences, then fences of bamboo. and at one point i said, "so there's no fence there" (or something) and he said "exactly" hahaha. so yeah. in the real picture there are two fences, and bamboo in the background. haha.

anyways, as a picture i really like it, and i think he liked it too. it doesn't really look like him, but a guy who kind of looks like him, in a cartoon way. and in the original his hair was longer, and he was standing differently. anyways. it was fun to do. like, everythings a little different, the statue and i forgot a table with flowers on it. (that's why the pedestal is on a weird stand, cuz that was supposed to be a table leg but i got it mixed up.)

it was really fun to see everyone else's. some of them were really funny. the picture that i brought in, the girl still has to finish coloring it, but it looked cool so far.

um, today was the last drawing class. and tomorrow is the last day of french class, and then i have finals at 8 on tues and thurs. fun early morning times. and after that i need to figure out fall term, find a job, learn to drive, things like that. it's weird that my birthday is coming up.. i feel kind of 19 or 20. and honestly i'm scared about the driving part, and finding a job part.. sigh. and i reallly hope i have financial aid for fall so i can work in the library!

here's a few things i've done in my drawing class recently. i've liked this class and also sort of hated it.

this is what we did tonight in class, and i think the process was really fun, i want to try it again sometime. first we listened to music and painted with watercolors, just thinking about color, shape, and the mood/energy of the music. this was to instrumental violin and other stuff, not classical, but classical-ish instruments. i had fun making the paint drip. ha.

then our teacher put up a slide of this weird guy who was holding up an animal skull thing with horns, as if it were a mask, and behind him there was another man in a dark blue plaid shirt leaning on a station wagon, which had the trunk open. so we drew from that slide, but all the lights were off, so we couldn't really see our papers, and so i mainly just did semi-blind contour. then she changed slides, but we kept drawing on the same paper. this one had two parked cars on a road/side of the road, and it was snowy, and one man was standing between them, and then the car on the right had it's side door open, and you could just see someones feet, like they were getting out of the car or something. this one also had a treeline off in the distance.

after a while, the lights were turned back on, and then we just changed things how ever we wanted, but sort of with the goal of clarifying the image. i'd drawn with charcoal so i made some area darker, like the shadow, and just started deciding what areas needed chalk or ink wash. in the top right corner is a section from a magazine, i'm not sure i'll use it, i just tacked it down to see what it would look like. the magazine seems really shiney compaired to everything else.

anyways, this project was really interesting to make, and it would be fun to try it again on my own, with different music and old family slides (we have a couple hundred from my grandparents...) i love blind contour drawing because it has a freeness to it. and you can see in the drawings where definite decisions were made (like to change direction in a line, or something) but yet it has this distortedness to it. i love the right hand of the skull guy.

this drawing is so different from anything else i've ever made, but i really like it. also for some reason it makes me think of my friend mick, or art he would make, so i'll have to show it to him and see if he likes it. this picture is due next tuesday, so i'll work on it a little more, but i think for the most part i like it. yay! drawing can be fun sometimes. i have so much homework for this class in these last few weeks though.
